Maestro José Hernandez’ annual Mariachi Nationals and Summer Institute returns to Southern California July 31 through August 5 at South El Monte High School in the City of South El Monte, California. Created by José Hernández and supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the California Arts Council and the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, the initiative is a week-long extensive series of workshops that immerses attendees in a high quality, comprehensive learning environment that helps them recognize their full mariachi potential.

There’s also an optional adjudicated festival with awards bestowed to outstanding participants in several categories. A José Hernández Signature Series Vihuela, Guitarrón and Guitar are donated by West Music. A violin and Bach Stradivarius Trumpet, developed by Maestro Hernández, will also be donated by Conn-Selmer.
